Hello ! I am a freelance
artist.
Right, you say. What the heck does THAT mean ?
- According to the dictionary a
"freelance" is a medieval
mercenary warrior. Someone with a lance -- for hire.
So me and my pen are for hire. Lances are a bit
clumsy for this sort of work.
-
About
me
- I live and work in a great little place called Yankeetown on the banks of the
Withlacoochie river,
north of Crystal River, Florida.
Where is your Gallery?
I get asked that a lot. Oh you're an artist?
Where's your gallery ?
I don't keep an open visitation gallery for a number of
reasons,
one being that a gallery necessitates a physical presence at fixed
hours and I work at all sorts of different times, frequently in the
quiet time when most other people around are asleep. Not for
me.
But who knows. Make my stuff popular enough and
I'll get
someone to hang it full time somewhere.
What do you do
I couldn't settle upon a single medium. Who wants to do the
same old thing all the time?
I carve wood, both in the round and in relief. I do
calligraphy,
graphic design, cartooning, paint in acrylic, watercolor and
gesso.
I trained early as a draftsman and illustrator and spent
several
years in the historic restoration of a classic 1927 hotel.
There I did hundreds of architectural detail drawings and
color
renderings for the structure and interiors.
But don't quit the day job
A standing joke. Uh - better not quit the day
job.
Truth is, I've had a successful action running for some time
that
gets me out of the studio and amongst people several days a week.
Were it not for that I doubt I'd ever get exercise or
sunlight.
So yeah, I'll keep it.
How much is THAT gonna cost ?
Well it depends a lot on what type of work it is and how big a
project. but I think you'll be surprised to find I'm quite
affordable. I enjoy talking to people about their projects,
so
the best way to find out is to just call me.
Got a project in mind? You can go to my CONTACT page
above and
call me or email me. Tell me about the project and
ask me
questions. That's the best and most successful way to find
out.
It's actually worth checking out
In a way I'm probably one of the more unique artists you'll
find
because of my wide variety of media and experience. Some
projects
use several at once, drawing from my background in building
and
restorations, photography and drafting. Some
involve a feel
for classic proportion, colors and calligraphy.
Your project
Imaginge actually having the idea you have brought into being.
Having it created just for you.
Thanks for visiting
I hope you enjoy what you find here and I 'd love to hear
from
you -- what did you like ? What would you like to see more of.
Wishing you all the best,
Raoul

I love my job
I love it so much that I'd be doing this even if it didn't pay
anything. It's just what I do. And I like people.
I
like to help, to contribute. I just charge for my work so
that I
can keep doing this.
I can really get art ?
I'm always tickled when a prospective client realizes what I can do for
them and that I really am affordable. They get so excited.
But it's such a cool thing to be able to have art.
It is
something that is unique and completelt done for you alone.
Surprisingly most people I talk with have the consideration
they can't afford to hire an artist. So it
never
occurred to them that they could own art themselves.
I'll work for food
( Well it does basically reduce to that simplicity when you
think
about it ). This is what I'd do on a day off if I didn't have
to
"work" for a living. But a guy's got to eat and you really do
need to have a place to plug in a coffee pot. So, yeah, I'll
work for food.
